For divers—or wannabes—the Caribbean offers many delights
Home to the world’s third largest barrier reef, diving was invented here. An extraordinary diversity of tropical fish and sea plants awaits you. Here are some of the highlights that the Caribbean’s top dive destinations have on offer.
THE BAHAMAS
Want to swim or dive with dolphins? Head to Grand Bahama. For less commercial or adventurous diving, the Out Islands provide an array of options. the Abacos feature many relatively shallow sites, though one also finds deeper waters and the famed “chumsicle” shark feeding site at Walker’s Cay. "Dean's Blue Hole", one of the deepest in the world at 663-feet is located right on the coastline in the southern part of Long Island. You can drive your car right to the water front, then park and walk a few feet to the blue hole. Some maintain the fabled ‘Fountain of Youth’ is inland on South Bimini. What is reputed to be the remains of the ruins of ‘Atlantis’ lie in its waters, just west of North Bimini. Dive in and see for yourself.
BONAIRE
Calm and beautiful, its turquoise waters feature one of the most perfect locales for divers. this idyllic island is considered by many one of the world’s top five dive destinations. Its entire reef has been protected for more than 30 years with National Marine Park status, and its veneration approaches reverence. Bonaire Marine Park encircles the island and nearby Klein Bonaire and, within the Park there are more than 86 marked dive sites. For sheer convenience, its shore diving makes Bonaire a top choice and divers frequently wade in to commence their dives.

CAYMAN ISLANDS
