Cars flying from London to Paris could be a regular sightoverhead from 2023

The AirCar, which transforms from a slick four-wheel automobileinto a sleek aircraft in 120 seconds has passed rigorous safety tests with flying colors. With tentative plans to launch by next year, proof that flying cars willsoon become a reality, the makers of the dual-mode car-aircraft received official approval and Certificate of Airworthiness by the Slovak Transport Authority.

Developed by Klein Vision, the AirCar has been under development since 2017 and is finally a step closer to mass production, opening the door for the mass production of flying cars closer to reality - changing mid-distance travel forever.

The car is said to have undergone 70 hours of rigorous flight testing based on the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Standards and has completed over 200 takeoffs and landings while flying cross-country. The flight tests done by the AirCar included the full range of flight and performancemaneuvers. Key goals are to fly the car from London to Paris in the near future.

As the name suggests, the AirCarcan be flown and driven on the road and is speedily converted from each mode with the press of a button. It is powered by a 140PS BMW 1.6-litre engine and can go up to 1,000 km on a single charge. So far, the two-seater AirCar that weighs 1,100 kg has flown at 8,200 ft and reached a maximum speed of 190 kmph.

Klein Visionis also working on a lightweight and efficient ADEPT engine that is expected to deliver 300 kmph speeds and a range of 1,000 km.
